KI 2125 Why must I apply to get/keep extended rights to my own PC?
(updated )
Extended local rights are well-known "points of attack" for unauthorized persons who want to gain access to or sabotage an organization's IT systems. Some sources estimate that as much as 90% of vulnerabilities in Windows systems are due to local administrator privileges (https://www.securden.com/blog/local-admin-accounts-management.html).
At UiB, we therefore need to have central control over and manage extended rights through a traceable system.
We believe that the scheme we are introducing safeguards security, while at the same time accommodating the needs for users who really still need extended rights to their PCs.
Please see the web page https://www.uib.no/en/personaldata for more information about the IT security work at UiB.
